I was cleaning up some of my stuff the other day and I came across a sticker that I have that reads “I am a Hunter and I feed the Hungry”. Some people lose track of what hunting is all about and view hunter’s as killer’s. I love spending time in the wilderness and I love the close interaction I have had with wildlife because I hunt. I love it when a squirrel will run across my legs, or a doe and fawn will walk within 5 yards of me and never know I am there. I love being out in the wilderness and experiencing wildlife in their natural habitat. This post is designed to find the reasons we hunt and why we love to go out hunting every year regardless of if we get anything or not.
So what is the point of hunting? Why do we go out and hunt every year? I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic, please reply and let us know what you think.
I will follow up next week with my feelings on this topic as well as an explanation for why hunting helps to protect the environment.
The time I spend in the mountains is a sanctuary, it’s a time to reflect on life and do some deep soul searching. To recharge and refocus for the year. I have to admit it’s a spiritual time I’ll never give up!
This is a great topic and something other OBS bloggers are discussing right now. Arthur from Simply Outdoors wrote a post about it as did Holly from NorCal Cazadora. I wrote one about why I’m thinking about starting hunting as well. You can find that on the Hunt Smart Think Safety Blog.
I think everyone has different ideas about what hunting means and different reasons for hunting. It is always interesting to see what people say.
By the way, welcome to the OBS. I’ve added your blog to the blogroll.
