Quaker Instant Oatmeal

I had a bowl of Quaker Instant Oatmeal this morning and I love how it reminds me of hunting Elk! That may seem like a weird thing to remind me of hunting Elk, but I can explain. When we go archery hunting for elk we like to backpack in to the middle of nowhere. We go to a special place in the High Uintas that we have gone to for several years. There are some impressive elk herds up there that are difficult to hunt. My dad has brought out some impressive Bull’s in his years of hunting this area and we have had several good memories going up to our home in the woods.

What I love about going up there is hanging out with my brother’s and my dad. I am going to have my first little boy in August and I decided on his name, when I was 18, up in our camp one morning. What would a hunting addict name his son? That’s right, Hunter. My little hunting addict will be born just before the start of the hunting season this fall. I can’t wait for him to grow up so I can take him hunting with me and celebrate his birthday on the hill every year. I hope I can provide the great memories for him that my Dad always provided for me.

Back to the oatmeal, there is nothing like waking up in the morning to go out hunting. I love everything about it, the chill in the air, the excitement of what’s to come, getting my camo on and of course my Instant Oatmeal and Hot Chocolate. We don’t ever have fires when we are up archery hunting due to the smoke so we boil water for every meal. I can hardly wait in the morning for my water to boil so I can get warm with my apples and Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal. It is one of my favorite meals for that very reason.

We would love to hear your comments about what you love about getting up in the morning before a day of hunting.
