Turkey Hunt

OK so we are a month away from the Turkey hunt opening this year in Utah. We were slackers and didn’t get our draw applications turned in on time but we lucked out and they ended up having extra tags that they sold over the counter. The tags that went over the counter were late season tags that start May 4th and go to the end of May. I hate to admit it but this is my first year hunting Turkeys and I think it is the first year for the rest of the Addicted crew. It is a growing sport in Utah, I try to think back to when I was younger and can’t remember if there even was a Turkey hunt in Utah 20 years ago. The state has done an excellent job in managing the Turkey population to where they have been able to raise the number of permits every year. And this year for the first time they went over the counter (lucky for us slackers).

So I’m open to suggestions/comments on what is best to do. I’m already planning on picking up a nice shooting blind as well as some decoys. I know I will need a Turkey call and maybe you can help with some pointers on what brands are real easy to pick up and learn. I know some of you Addicts in the South and Mid-west have been doing this since you were 2 and can probably offer up some good advice so don’t hold back. I’m plannin on getting this done with my Bow. I plan to hunt with my Bow up to the last day and then go for the shotgun.

Also I’m looking for some recipes for fried Turkey. I know they are out there. I know its assumptive for me to say I’m going to tag one but I want to be prepared in case I do. So help us Addicts out and let us know the best way to enjoy Turkey.
