I just wanted to share a few photos of my NV, archery deer hunt. I shot this muley on Saturday the 11th, I made a nice 1/4 mile stalk, with my wife Amiee and my oldest son Chaz, my father in law and my brother in law watching from a 1/2 mile away through spotting scopes and bino's. While I was stalking and about 300 yards from the buck I just about stepped on a Rattle Snake, he could have had me if he wanted to. I could not see him, but I sure did here him. I did the hop, skip, and a jump till my heart slowed down a little. He was about a three foot Timber Rattler, of which I am glad of they are not so aggressive. When my heart stopped beating I stalked down to where I could finally see the buck, he was beaded down with a doe about 10 yard above him and she also had a fawn with here, but I had no idea where she was beaded. I stalked down to with in 55 yards of him while the wind was not consistent at all. I only wanted to get to the next tall sage brush where I could set up and wait him out. Well I took my next step, and out of the corner of my left eye I saw some movement. It was that fawn she was standing there looking at me wondering what I was. Now I was between her and the doe and buck. I thought it was all over but she just stood there and looked at me, the wind was blowing right at her. I was now stuck for about 5 minutes waiting her out. She finally bound off the opposite direction from the other two and I sat down and waited about five more minutes for everything to settle back down. I slid down to 46 yards and that was as far as I dared go, due to the wind conditions. I sat there only about 10 minutes or so and I saw the bucks antlers starting to move a lot. I knew he was going to get up. I was not sure if he had winded me or not? He got up, I drew back expecting him to blow out of there but he started to stretch and nibble a little bit, so I let my bow down. I just needed him to take one or two step and I could get a nice open shot at him.
Well he didn't he turned and walked the other way from me about 4-5 steps and stopped in an opening and presented a quartering away shot. I put my 40 yard pin slightly high on the back of his rib cage and released the arrow.
The buck did the buck and kick and I knew I heart shot him.
He was dead in 5 seconds or less I watched him run about 35-40 yards and tumble down the hill. I was so excited my wife and the gang watched the whole thing through the spotting scopes they said it was awesome to see. I wish I would have had a video camera man with me? Maybe next time.
It was an awesome to have my family there to experience this hunt with me.
