Nice Bull. Good work on taging a nice trophy bull. I wish my season went as well. I had the central Nebo archery tag. We saw a ton of bulls and several really nice bulls. I had a nice 350 class bull come in 35 yards on Labor Day weekend and pluged an arrow into him the shot was not ideal because he was quartered to me slightly but the arrow hit the rib cage about mid body and I was sure I got a minimum of one lung. He bled out pretty good we tracked him all night and he never would lay down. We ended up tracking the next morning and found an area of heavy oak brush that he went through wipeing a ton of blood off on the trees but then the trail went cold and we never could find him. It was a rough end to a great season but we had a ton of encounters. One of my favorite parts is being able to call these magnificent animals in and I can say that I was able to do that several times. I was able to call in a 380+ bull that my buddy Scott got 2 shots at but missed. That was a nice bull. It will be public land hunts for the next 5+ years but Im sure we can get into so good units.

So it looks like the Addicts came out of the draw pretty lucky. 3 of us plus Scotts father all drew out Central Nebo tags. In looking at the statistics this is pretty amazing. This year they gave out 31 tags for this area. We know of 5 people that have drawn out in this area and 3 of them are addicts. So Addicted managed to get 10% of the tags in this area and friends of Addicted got another 6% of these. This is exciting as we have hunted this area before and last year assisted Mike owner of Timberhawk Packs in taking a real nice bull from that area. But with that said 4 Bulls is a tall order to fill for this area. In comparison in 2008 37 tags were given and only 8 Bulls taken. So we need to take half of what was taken last year. Wish us some luck because we are going to need it.

I will see if I can track down that photo. I know what you mean on the can't get it off the mind. Scott and I drew out Central Nebo as well as Scotts dad so we are pretty excited. Its an area we have hunted before and Scott guided a good friend Mike the owner of Timberhawk Packs on that hunt last year and taged a nice bull. You can read about that story under the Hunting contest tab as the example and I think there are photos in the blog under Mikes Bull. It scored 330 but had a lot of carracter. Ever since I saw the charges come out of my account the nightly Elk hunting dreams have started. I will keep my ear to the ground and be sure to pass any more info I hear on the Book Cliffs hunt. Stay Addicted!

We have a friend that drew out the Beaver Creek, Book Cliffs area and took a real nice bull. I want to say 380 class. I will have to track down some photos of it. What I do know is Book Cliffs is one of the most sought after tags in Utah. With that being said it is a pretty difficult area to hunt. The majority of the roads that go through that area are on top of the ridges so you will end up hunting down in some pretty steep stuff. So plan on options to get your bull up and out of there. A 375+ bull is a good target for that area but it will require some research and scouting this summer. It would be worth your time to get in touch with the local ranger and talk to him about the herds and areas that he has seen heavy Elk traffic. I would check to see if there are any local ranchers that run cattle or sheep in that area they always know where to find the big boys and are usually pretty helpful. I hope you get the opportunity to take a nice bull. Make sure to share your story with us as you move towards the hunt. We would love to see any scouting photos or videos you get.

Jason,

Yeah thanks I would love to see some pictures of the bull. I'm still in shock that I drew the permit, the problem is I can't focus on anything else now. School and work have just become a place for me to look up more and more facts of the area. We have talked to a few people about the area as well as a biologist down there and things are looking very hopeful. We are planning a scouting trip in June. I really appreciate all the input and any and all the knowledge that you have of down there would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again.

I appreciate your input on the subject, I can't tell you how excited I am to for this hunt. I drew the tag with 10 points, a friend of ours got us in contact with a guy that has guided some people in the roadless area two archers one muzzlelaoder and one rifle. They got bulls ranging from 330 to 350. One of my bosses fathers had a rifle tag there two years ago and shot a 380 bull. If you know anyone that has gone down there and could give me any more advice/input that would be great.

Thanks again.

No kidding, I'm just jelous but that's what I get for not putting in for limited entery over the years, this was the first year I tried and as expected with "0" points I didn't draw. I still look forward to hunting a spike while filming and calling in your state record bull!! It's fun just to see the big boys so I'm glad you guys drew out, it'll make the season exciting.

So according to my bank account it looks like my dad and I both drew Limited Entry Archery Elk Tags.

If you read the post about the bear tags you will see that I said "I think that the computer system that runs the draw for Utah has a line of code in it that says “if applicant = Scott than result = unsuccessful” I am hard coded to not draw………"

Maybe someone at the DWR saw that and changed the code? I am still in a bit of shock because I never draw anything let alone get my dad in on the mix. I am so excited, my dad is turning 65 this year and I can't wait to get him in on a big bull. I have guided in this area the last two seasons and have seen some great bulls. We drew the Central Mountains, Nebo tag. This is the tag that Mike from Timber Hawk had last year. I can't wait!!!!!
