The time has come!!
Over the last few weeks we’ve all been gearing up for the opener. This Saturday is Utah’s opener for the archery hunt. Travis and Jason are going to stick to the standard spot and hunt deer. Scott and myself can’t get elk out of our heads until we’ve taken ours so we will be in our limited entry area. There is a lot that has to happen to be ready for the hunt. We’ve been out scouting (Scott more than anyone, he’s... [Read More...]
Fourth, Flags, and FREEDOM!!
I love this country, I love what it represents. I love the foundation laid for us by our founding fathers, and I love being free!! I don’t have a lot on my walls here in the office but other than pictures of my family and a BYU football sign my “theme” around here is flags. I found a cool poster of a flag with the pledge around it and the national anthem in the stripes, each star has the state it represents and the date they were accepted... [Read More...]
Innovative Americans
This is America, we are creative, innovators. We will make what we have work!! A buddy that was a Marine said that the Marines take the Army’s used gear and make it work longer and better for them. I’m not familiar with the military so I don’t know how it works but it sounds like most of the budget goes to the Army first and the Marines have to do more with less. So what is American’s answer to Obama and his gun regulations? We just need... [Read More...]
Preserve and Defend the Outdoors
We at Addicted to hunting are a part of The Outdoor Bloggers Summit. They are a great group of bloggers that have one thing in common, a love for the outdoors. Occasionally they ask us to write about a specific topic, last week they asked for articles about preserving the outdoors. Now we all understand there are a lot of differing viewpoints on how to do this. I wrote a paper a while back about Lake Powell and discovered there are a lot of people... [Read More...]
Hunting Accident?
Results of an Accident I came across the following news story: http://www.wtap.com/news/headlines/46480552.html A young hunter from WV admitted to a hunting accident. He said he accidentally shot a 16 year old while out turkey hunting. Now what does any reasonable persond do when faced with a horrible accident? Ignore it of course, leading to the kids death. I am amazed that someone who made such a bad mistake and then compounded it by making a wore... [Read More...]
Farm grown racks
Well I thought you might enjoy following this story. Before I get blasted let’s get it out there. I understand this is a farm raised, pampered deer. I enjoy looking at and understanding the game I hunt. I think that we can learn from farmed animals, some of what they do, how they act, and when they rut can help us in the field on the real thing. Trav is more of a fan of this than I am but there’s a small local farmer that... [Read More...]
It’s all about timing
So much of hunting is about your timing. Being in the right place at the right time. We spend countless hours studying, researching, and scouting to place ourselves in the right place at the right time. We practice different scenarios so we can time when to draw back just right, when to take the shot. Timing is key. Well in this sitiation timing was not in the elks favor. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, seriously what are the... [Read More...]
Politics and Gun Rights
Scott had to bring politics into the mix, I try to stay away from it but… As hunters I’m sure most of you have heard about President Obama’s anti gun record. With what president Obama has been able to push through on spending I don’t think it will be difficult for him to get anti gun laws passed. Here is a summary of a proposed bill that is being talked aobut: This is a summary of HR-54 introduced last month by Bobby Rush... [Read More...]
Bear Attack
I was reading Arthur’s blog today, Simply Outdoors, and came across a stunning video. The Easton team responded quickly and it ended good but the thought of a mother brown bear coming after you, getting just 8 feet away is shocking. Just another reminder to be safe out in the woods, you never know when and, as this video shows, how fast a situation can change from quiet to deadly. Follow this link as they have requested that this video does... [Read More...]
